Mathilde Pavis as an active and dedicated IPowL presented her research at the first edition of the UCL Laws PGR and ECR Conference in London. Invited to talk about her research and her project (see the post on the InVisible Difference Project dated 30/10/14) she had the faboulour opportunity to meet with other IP keenos such as Shane Burk based at Queen Mary and Evgenia Kanellopoulou from Salford University. They should soon join the network and possibly the rank of our lovely IPowLs!
The Conference was a long and busy day where your brains were constantly challenged by the creative themes of each stream (Many/One, Silent/Noise, Gateways/Barriers etc.) but it was also instructive as senior academic researchers were invited to talk us through the tricks of the trade of being in academia in the UK. I will go away with the impression that 'impact', 'public engagement' and 'REF' mean different things in different institutions but with the reassuring thought that ECRs and in a much better position to look for a lectureship now (at the start of a new REF cycle) than they were 18 months ago.
As you can see on the picture, the conference also featured the youngest and loveliest participant I have ever had the chance to meet!
